About

The Barre Collective Barre Instructor Training Programme

The Barre Collective Barre Instructor Training Programme (endorsed by PD: Approval) is the most thorough course available for entry-level barre teacher teaching and is based on techniques that are tried, tested and used every day in our studio and online.

Developed over 10 years by our Founder, Vicki Anstey and Team GB Physiotherapist, Katherine Ready, our methodology is the most advanced in the industry, both in the UK and globally and our Instructors are amongst the most highly trained on the circuit.  We offer the course both in-person and online - so if you can't make it to Richmond, you'll still feel as though you're in the room with us.

Our online course gives you access to us and the course materials and resources in exactly the same way as Trainees who participate in person. It is fully interactive and you will be LIVE with us both days of the workshop.

With origins in the Lotte Berk Method and the New York City Ballet Workout, influences from yoga, pilates and classical ballet, plus a variety of strength and conditioning techniques, you will not find a more comprehensive route to becoming a world-class Barre Instructor.

Read what our current Trainees and recent Graduates have to say about the course here.

Why choose The Barre Collective?

Train with the original pioneer of Barre and Ballet fitness in the UK

15 years ago our co-founder and lead instructor left a lucrative career in advertising to train in barre and set up her own enterprise with no previous dance experience but a strong desire to bring this transformative method of exercise to London.

Vicki's training in Barre fitness stands out in the industry having trained with the best of the best. She has handed down her knowledge and her own learnings to over one hundred instructors since 2013 under our previous name, Barreworks.

  • 2008, trained and qualified in the Lotte Berk Exercise Method.

  • 2010, trained and qualified as a fully licensed instructor of the New York City Ballet Workout.

  • 2013 - 2015, completed advanced-level instructor training with barre legends and pioneers Elisabeth Halfpapp and Fred Devito, founders of Exhale, the biggest barre studio network in the U.S.

  • 2010 & 2013, Pre and Postnatal Training with Fit to Deliver (we also deliver a Pre and Postnatal Course for continued professional development).

  • 2016, Level 3 Anatomy and Physiology.

Helen Lewis completed the Barre Instructor Training after falling in love with the method as a client and has since partnered up with Vicki to run The Barre Collective and assist her with training the next generation of Barre Instructors. Helen has a strong background in movement science and teaches up to 12 classes a week at the studio.

Helen has a Bachelors Degree in Health Science from the Australian Catholic University, a Level 3 Diploma in Mat Based Pilates and is certified to deliver exercise to clients with Common Orthopaedic Conditions. Helen leverages her knowledge of anatomy and physiology to ensure that all new instructors understand the principles and biomechanics of why each Barre movement is important.

How does it work?
  • You will receive a support pack containing all the information you need and the Pre Workshop Reading Materials.

  • You will attend a two-day workshop (16 hours) with us.

  • You will take a one hour theory exam based on the Pre Workshop Reading Material on the second day of the workshop.

  • You will be guided through a (maximum) three month period of practical evaluation – initially via video submission and then at a half-day assessed session with cohorts from your course group.

  • You will be assigned a 'buddy' from your course group to practise with and prepare your initial stage video submission for assessment by us. This video does not have to be perfect, but should demonstrate high potential for certification.

  • In order to continue with the course, you must submit this video at the end of the two month period following your workshop date.

  • Successful candidates will attend a half-day assessment session with their peer group and prepare a full class ready to teach. We will select a section of the class (on the day) for you to teach for your final assessment.

  • We will provide full, official written feedback within 5 days, but you will also benefit from having instant feedback from your peer group and be able to learn from their teaching on that assessment day.

  • Upon receiving your certification, you will have absolute certainty that you’re able to deliver barre instruction to the highest standard possible. Our hands-on, thorough and supportive approach means that you are not left struggling with online ‘how to’ guides or left feeling apprehensive about whether your classes and teaching approach will translate to a profitable business down the line.
